Waterways
The CIRTPA planning area does not contain any waterways that are used for transportation purposes. The water features in the region are utilized for recreational purposes and include Lake Red Rock in north central Marion County, Saylorville Lake in northwest Polk County, and Big Creek Lake in northwest Polk County.
These lakes and their surrounding areas attract boaters, anglers, campers, hunters, bicyclists, hikers, and other recreational users. The CIRTPA region experiences higher volumes of traffic during the summer months when visitors frequent these areas.
