| The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (DMAMPO) is focused on establishing a comprehensive, coordinated, and continuing transportation planning process for the Des Moines metropolitan area. The DMAMPO provides a regional forum to assure that transportation planning issues, and implementation of projects are identified and coordinated by local, state, and federal agencies, and the general public. In that role, the DMAMPO works with local, state, and federal agencies, and the general public to prepare transportation plans and programs. The DMAMPO is responsible for both long and short-range roadway and transportation plans, selects and approves projects for federal funding based on regional priorities, and develops ways to reduce traffic congestion. We are a transportation policy-making organization made up of representatives from local government and transportation authorities: City of Ankeny, City of Altoona, City of Bondurant, City of Carlisle, City of Clive, City of Cumming, Dallas County, City of Des Moines, City of Grimes, City of Johnston, City of Mitchellville, City of Norwalk, City of Pleasant Hill, City of Polk City , Polk County, City of Urbandale, Warren County, City of Waukee, City of West Des Moines, City of Windsor Heights, Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority, Iowa Department of Transportation, Des Moines International Airport, Federal Highway Administration, and Federal Transit Administration. |
