The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) identifies investments for programs funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for four federal fiscal years. The projects identified within the TIP are divided into two groups. Projects proposed for funding from FHWA programs are shown first. FTA programs follow.

Both FHWA and FTA projects are identified by the specific FHWA or FTA programs they are expected to be administered under. Project listings are further subdivided by the expected year of construction. Each entry shows the expected total project cost and the respective federal-aid participation. All projects included in the draft TIP on the date the TIP received federal approval are identified in this document. Inclusion of a project in this document does not assure federal-aid eligibility. Additional conditions may have to be met prior to federal-aid authorization by FHWA or FTA.

The Transportation Capital Improvement Program (TCIP) includes all transportation projects and improvements in the Des Moines Metropolitan area that do not receive federal funding.  The projects listed within this document are Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) that have an affect on the transportation system in the metropolitan area. These transportation projects are compiled from the Des Moines Area MPO’s member government’s individual CIP’s.

The TCIP, along with the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), is prepared annually for upcoming fiscal years and allows the Des Moines Area MPO and it’s governmental members to have a more comprehensive view of transportation projects and improvements that will be implemented throughout the Des Moines metropolitan area.

The governmental members of the Des Moines Area MPO consider the planned projects listed within this document to be subject to change at any time.
