The Year 2030 Long-Range Transportation Plan (Year 2030 LRTP) is the Des Moines Area MPO's plan for addressing the future growth of the metropolitan area. The plan provides a vision for how local governments want to see the region develop. The Year 2030 LRTP, also outlines future transportation projects within a fiscally constrained context. It includes existing conditions of the current transportation system, and provides travel demand modeling through the Year 2030 to illustrate expected future traffic conditions. The Year 2030 LRTP is the third multimodel transportation plan to be developed for the Des Moines metropolitan area.
The Year 2030 LRTP was adopted on December 16, 2004.

The Des Moines Area MPO is in the process of updating its long-range transportation plan to Horizon Year 2035. The Horizon Year 2035 Long-Range Transportation Plan will identify transportation needs and proposed improvements, plans, and strategies to address the identified needs through the thirty year planning horizon. The Des Moines Area MPO anticipates completion of the plan by September 2009.  Throughout the process, the Des Moines Area MPO will gather public input and comments to assist in guiding and developing the long-range transportation plan.
