Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (DMAMPO) membership is open to any county or city government located in the Planning Area Boundary with a population of at least 1,500 and who adopts the DMAMPO’s 28E Agreement (agreement entered into under Chapter 28E, Code of Iowa, establishing the DMAMPO and its responsibilities).  Currently, the DMAMPO membership includes the following cities and counties: City of Altoona, City of Ankeny, City of Bondurant, City of Carlisle, City of Clive, Dallas County, City of Des Moines, City of Grimes, City of Johnston, City of Mitchellville, City of Norwalk, City of Pleasant Hill, Polk County, City of Polk City, City of Urbandale, Warren County, City of Waukee, City of West Des Moines, and City of Windsor Heights.  The City of Cumming is an associate member.  Associate membership allows a non-voting representative to actively participate in the transportation planning process, although the government does not meet the population threshold for full membership.

Representation on the DMAMPO is based on population, with each member government given at least one vote.  The DMAMPO grants additional representatives to larger member governments based on reaching determined population thresholds.  The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART), the Des Moines International Airport (DMIA), the Federal Highway Administration (FWHA), and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) serve as non-voting, advisory representatives to the DMAMPO.  Select the following link to view the membership of the DMAMPO.

The DMAMPO receives technical guidance from the DMAMPO’s Transportation Technical Committee (TTC).  The DMAMPO TTC representation differs from the DMAMPO in that the DART and the DMIA are voting members of this committee.  Their respective councils or boards appoint the DMAMPO TTC’s representatives, primarily senior staff from member governments and agencies.  Select the following link to view the membership of the DMAMPO's TTC.

Additionally, the DMAMPO has established and supports other subcommittees on various transportation-related issues relevant to the DMAMPO’s responsibilities.
