The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) serves over half a million people in central Iowa. The MPO focuses on establishing a comprehensive, coordinated, and continuing transportation planning process that facilitates the appropriation of federal funds.

The Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2016 Surface Transportation Program (STP) Secondary Application now is available. You can access it here.
Completed STP TE Applications Available for Review
Completed applications for Federal Fiscal Year 2016 Surface Transportation Program (STP) Transportation Enhancements (TE) now are available for review. There are two categories: Scenic Environmental and Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities. The submitted applications are as follows:

Passenger Rail Station Study Completed
The MPO staff completed the Des Moines Area Passenger Rail Station Feasibility Study, which evaluated six sites along the Iowa Interstate Railroad. The review criteria included the proximity to the Des Moines Central Business District and other public transportation services, the availability of parking, and the platform and facility size that each site could support. The study recommends the Rock Island Depot, located at 100 4th Street in Des Moines, as the preferred site.
